April Beauty Picks

Hey Babes! I’ve been MIA for nearly three weeks, skipping scheduled blog posts and putting duties off. It’s been CRAZY here at my house. Most of you know we were building a home and due to be living in it in July. However, it fell through (which majorly sucked). But two weeks ago we decided to buy a house instead! Between packing, paperwork, registering my kiddo for a new school and all the normal daily tasks, life has been NUTS! However, it is finally April.  PRAISE THE LAWD! With April comes this new sense of freshness, at least in my world. I start purging the old and cleaning the heck out of everything. I tried to refresh my mind and my body for warmer days ahead.

My beauty picks this month reflect just that. Winter is (hopefully) over and your skin needs a revamp. Cold weather is so hard on skin. April is a tricky month. It’s not hot enough to just rock some SPF, so you can still wear an entire face of make up. But your skin is probably hating you from winter and needs a break from your foundations and dark lip stains. Your body, if like mine, enjoyed winter…..a lot. Like…. a lot a lot. So maybe you need a bit of a detox. Maybe your shelf in your bathroom closet just needs a make over altogether? You’re tired of warm vanilla sugar scents and are looking to freshen it up a bit. Here we go!

Dove Dry Spray

I sweat. ALL THE TIME. It can be -4 degrees and I’m still a sweaty dude. WHYYYY DOES THIS HAPPEN TO ME!? I have tried almost every deodorant out there. I usually steer towards the clinical strength types, but I gave this a try instead. First off, this coconut one smells heavenly. All you do is spray a little bit on and you’re good to go! I never felt smelly or sweaty! It was really impressive. I totally recommend you add this to your routine. If you’re a gym lady, this stuff is PERFECT to freshen up with after you’re done and not showering right away.IMG_4036

Hum Daily Cleanse

IMG_4039You know when you’re on Insta and those ads pop up? That’s how I discovered HUM. Timing was of the essence because I was currently searching for a new vitamin regimen. HUM is pretty amazing. They’re made with all natural ingredients and their entire line is designed to treat virtually any issue you may have. I started with this little pill called Daily Cleanse. It’s a daily vitamin that helps rid your skin and body from toxins. The wonders in this little capsule are awesome! It’s full of chlorella, spirulina, dandelion, milk thistle and matcha green tea. It’s the perfect thing to detox your body for Summer. I totally encourage all of you to check out their entire line! The other one I cannot live without is called Flatter Me for bloating and healthy digestion.

Neapolitan EyesCream

Ohhhh man. Have I mentioned my undying love for Beauty Bakerie yet? BEST MAKE UP LINE EVER. No, seriously. Best EVER! Everything is smudge/waterproof. I love this subtle eye shadow palette. It features very natural hues of browns, pinks, and creams. You know…like Neapolitan ice cream. The packaging is adorable and the quality is flawless. This palette is perfect for Spring/Summer. No shade is too overpowering and the colors totally build if you’re looking for something more dramatic. My fave shades are Chocolate Chip and Strawberry.

Beach Babe Texturizing Dry Shampoo

IMG_4038I love me some Dry Shampoo. A good one that won’t break the bank is hard to come by. I think my favorite line of Dry Shampoos that you can find at a drug store would be Not Your Mother’s. Super affordable and super awesome. They have a few different varieties from volumizing to cleaning. I love the texturizing one. I have very short, very thin hair. This is perfect for creating some piecy looks and adding some tousled waves. Not to sound too redundant, but it creates amazing….TEXTURE. Who knew?

BeFine Night Cream

img_4037.jpg As I said last month, I love natural products that eliminate harsh chemicals. Befine is an awesome brand that uses natural products to make your skin as youthful as possible. Their night cream, which uses millet, cocoa, and rice bran is wonderful for creating even skin tone. I use this bad boy every night and my blotchiness and blemishes have evened out. If you’re struggling with some uneven skin tone this cream is perfect. They also have day creams and a frickin awesome neck cream that everyone needs to use. Fun Fact::::: DO NOT IGNORE YOUR NECK. It’s one of the most overlooked areas of the body and one that deserves the most attention. Necks are one of the things that show age the most, so I encourage all of you to invest in an appropriate neck cream.

Tea Talk

Happy Friday! It’s been a week here at our house. I’ve been really off my game, routine wise, which is throwing me off. Next time I’ll have a post dedicated to my morning rituals that help keep me grounded and make for a better day. A big part of my day is tea. Tea is great. I know it’s hard to forego your typical coffee jolt in the morning, but hear me out.

Coffee is great. Seriously, you will not find a person who loves coffee more than myself. Tea, however, is a totally different love affair. There are so many health benefits to whatever tea you’re drinking. Just like coffee, you can ruin it by adding sweeteners, syrups, etc. While I love almost every tea (except Earl Grey, I JUST CAN’T DO IT), I’ll share a few of my faves and hopefully you can jump on the tea wagon too.

Cranberry

IMG_3579

Cranberry tea is so good. It doesn’t have a huge “tea” presence, meaning it doesn’t taste too bitter or herbal. This tea from Traditional Medicinals  is a necessity in my house. I hate being bloated. Doesn’t every chick? THE WORST. This baby helps with unnecessary water weight. I would only recommend drinking this when it’s necessary. If you’re going on vacation or have an event would be good examples. Drink 2 glasses a day for optimal results.

Green

Green Tea is delicious, energizing, and full of powerful benefits. It aids in weight loss, diabetes, heart disease, cholesterol, blood pressure and so much more. The longer you steep it, the more caffeine there will be. Since it’s a natural diuretic, you won’t be bloated like you would be with coffee. Some people find the taste to be too bitter and at first it can be. My favorite way to drink green tea is with a squeeze of lemon juice and fresh mint leaves. Mint is an awesome addition to green tea because it also helps with digestion, so this is a powerhouse combination. Steep your tea for at least 2o minutes, squeeze some lemon, and add 5 mint leaves. I leave it in a pitcher in the fridge and drink it cold throughout the day. However, if you’re short on time, Tazo Tea has a blend called Zen that’s basically the same thing (available in tea bags and K-cups).

Dandelion

IMG_3779

I know, this sounds awful, but before you scroll down or exit completely….don’t. Dandelion root is crazy beneficial. It breaks down fats, promotes liver health, aids in digestion, and gets rid of waste. IT IS AMAAAZZZIIINNNNGG.

Dirty Chai

IMG_3781

I added this baby for those tea  skeptics that refuse to omit coffee from their life. This is a simple chai tea with delicious notes of nutmeg and cinnamon. Plus, it has the added bonus of espresso. You can have your coffee and tea in one.

Turmeric and Ginger

IMG_3778

This is a powerful and complimentary combination. Turmeric is so good for you, it’s pretty incredible. It has many anti-inflammatory components and aids in pain relief. This is what I drink during the time of the month. Yep. This is an all natural way to combat menstrual cramps. Turmeric is one of the “highest ranking antioxidant spices in the world, just below cinnamon”. Ginger, a sweeter spice, is great for nausea.

Chamomile

IMG_3777

Rough day? Stressed out? Struggle with anxiety? Me too. It’s so hard to turn my mind off at the end of the evening. I’m constantly forcing myself to go to sleep and to stop worrying about the kids, bills, school, etc. There are two things that help me unwind, wine (ha! of course) and chamomile tea. I was sitting in Target one day complaining to my husband about how I am so stressed and am struggling with mini panic attacks. A kind woman overheard me and suggested I drink chamomile tea. I went directly to the tea aisle and grabbed a box. It worked. After about half a glass, I immediately feel relief and drowsiness. Chamomile is famous for helping soothe the body and aid in sleep. For those of you who need to relax, try this sucker. Yogi has a few different Bedtime varieties, but this one is my favorite.

March Beauty Picks

I love beauty products. Especially products that are VEGAN and CRUELTY-FREE. You’ll notice a trend throughout my beauty picks that I tend to navigate towards the same brands. About a year ago, I made the switch to (mostly) all natural/organic beauty products. I wanted to see if it made a difference in my skin and IT DID. It took about 3 months for me to see the results, but I have to say my skin has never been better. A lot of the products I wear are cruelty-free, however there are a bunch that aren’t too. A little background on my skin type….

I’m super oily

I dry out like nobody’s business

I have large pores

I am prone to break-outs

I suffer from blemishes

Did that cover pretty much everything? Yes. I have been cursed…I mean, BLESSED (sorry Dad), with your run of the mill “combination” skin. I suffered from acne during my teenage years and still have body acne from time to time. My oiliness has seemed to only worsen with age, but my blemishes are almost non-existent. My pores are still large and in charge, and during the winter I get these super attractive flakes of dry skin around my mouth and my T-zone. Being a woman is so. much. fun. So, if you suffer from perfect skin, read no further.

Amara Organics Total Repair Eye Gel

IMG_3610

So…your a mom. Your kid was up all night with a cold. At the same time you decided to NOT sleep and instead, binge watch Gilmore Girls on Netflix (come on, I KNOW that’s not just me). You made a cup of coffee at 8 pm and basically have decided that sleep is no longer a necessity. I get you, girl. You wake up and notice that you have officially become an extra from The Walking Dead. Look no further because I have an amazing product. I found this little bottle of wonder on Amazon of all places. It reduces circles and puffy eyes with soothing cucumber. It’s very lightweight and not greasy. I can instantly feel results. The Hyaluronic Acid instantly tightens your skin. I can LEGIT feel it tighten. Plus, it’s all natural and cruelty free, so it’s a necessity in my house.

Evologie Intensive Blemish Serum

IMG_3609

This stuff makes my teenage heart happy. If only this little baby existed back in the 7th grade when “he who will remain unnamed” called me Pizza Face. I found this product in a monthly Ipsy bag and gave it a whirl. I noticed after 2 months of repeated use, that my blemishes were less severe. This serum uses honey extract and chamomilla flower to calm down inflammation and soothe skin.

Acure Organics Day Cream

IMG_3608

This stuff just rocks. There’s no other way to describe it. It locks in moisture and smells delicious. Plus, it’s made with gotu kola stem cell  and chlorella. Chlorella is an amazing algae that can help produce collagen in your skin. Gotu Kola stem cell can lighten dark spots and helps protect from sun damage.

Urban Decay Naked 3 Palette

IMG_3611

Please ignore the dirty mirror in this picture. It should show how often I use this thing. This palette is so beautiful. Every naked palette is gorgeous, but this one is my favorite. It features gorgeous hues of pinks, rose golds, and neutrals. With Spring around the corner, this is a must have.

First blog post and Spring Picks

Oh my gosh it’s my first blog post! I can’t begin to tell you how excited I am for this! My main goal with Mother Trend was to create a place where mothers (or women in general) can come get ideas and inspiration for their daily lives. With all the latest trends in fashion, health, child care, it’s so easy to get overwhelmed with the mass amount of information available. Over the last 5 years, I’ve come to love myself more than I ever did. With that love came self-care. I realized how important it was to take care of me. If I’m a better person, a happier person, a balanced person; then I’ll be a better mother. I wanted to share with all the other mothers out there the tricks I’ve learned thus far, and maybe we can have a little fun too! So, without further adieu….welcome to Mother Trend!!!

Spring Fashion Picks

Spring is right around the corner! Can I get an amen? Even though the winter here in the Midwest wasn’t that awful, I still have Spring fever! With Spring comes brighter colors and fun florals. As a full-time mama, I understand the importance of looking put together without sacrificing comfort. Below you’ll find my favorite pieces for Spring.

Blush and Powder Blue

img_3490

THESE COLORS! I love these colors. They’re everywhere. Blush is such a soft and feminine color that is welcome in every aspect of fashion. From pants to hats and bags, it’s such a pretty color that can be dressed up or down. Pink doesn’t have to be “dressy”, it can be relaxed as well. Sweats and athletic wear have embraced this trendy color too. I’ve linked a pair of joggers that I LOVE and also wear all the time. Another “in” color is powder blue. I love these heels pictured. They’re playful and pretty. They truly embrace Spring weather. Throw em’ on with a full skirt or skinny jeans. The heel is low enough that they won’t hurt you all night long.

90’s

img_3562

I am loving the 90’s vibe happening now. Never in a million years did I ever think I’d say “OMG I HAD A TOP JUST LIKE THAT!”(in 4th grade). Yes my friend, the days of chokers, smiley faces, and peace signs are among us again. However, instead of traveling back in time to our tween days, embrace the 90’s in a new and attractive way. Find yourself a top that includes the choker in the neck line. These high neck tops with the peep-hole are easy peasy and add a touch of sex appeal. I got mine at Marshall’s, but here’s one almost identical!

Floral Print Choker Neck

A Full Skirt

Usually I buy tutus for my daughter, but I just bought myself an adult one. Tulle is everywhere. Good or bad, I don’t know, but here they are. I decided to embrace it as a fun way to add texture to my look. A full pink tulle skirt doesn’t have to be “poofy” or ballerina-esque if that’s what you’re thinking. Down below is one from Forever 21 that lays delicately. However, if you want to be daring and add some volume (and a larger circumference), more power to ya girl! Below is one from Express that fits the description.
